HAPPY THANKSGIVING

November 22, 1963 was sunny, balmy day in New York.  The temperature reached an unseasonably 60 degrees.  I was a senior at the Bronx High School of Science.  As I was leaving my last period class students were running in the hallway shouting President Kennedy was assassinated.  I was incredulous.  How could a president be assassinated given all the Secret Service protection and local law enforcement security?

After I left my homeroom and walked to the subway station to hop on the #4 train for the 20-minute trip to my apartment in the West Bronx. On the subway I said to one of my classmates that I don’t believe the president was assassinated.  He shook his head yes. 

I arrived at my subway stop and began to walk to my apartment building when I met my younger brother, and we walked home together in less than a minute.  I turned on the television and watched Walter Cronkite on channel 2 (WCBS) update the news about the assassination. 

What should we know about the assassination?  First, Lee Harvey Oswald did not kill the president.  He told reporters he had not been charged with killing the president.  Oswald said he was a “patsy.”  If Oswald was the assassin, why didn’t he admit it? If an individual’s goal is to assassinate the president, and he was successful, he would brag about it.   On the contrary, Oswald asserted he did not kill the president.

If Oswald had so much animus toward President Kennedy and did indeed kill the president, he would be ecstatic about his action.  And then two days later a mob connected strip club owner killed Oswald in the Dallas police station.  You cannot make this up. 

In short, JFK was assassinated because the Deep State was opposed to JFK’s peace initiatives with  the Soviet Union.  See his American University speech in June 1963 sealed his fate.  Also, one of the best books—if not the best-on the assassination is James Douglas’s JFK and the Unspeakable.  When I started reading it many years ago, I could not put the book down.  I read it over a couple of days.  A “probable” conspiracy to kill JFK was the conclusion of the House Select Committee on Assassinations in 1979 and the volume of books about the conspiracy is massive.   Ignore the books that assert there was a lone gunman.

Today, RFK Jr.’s Substack essay highlights that JFK wanted his legacy to be he worked to create a peaceful America.  In addition, Jacob Hornberger, president of the Future of Freedom Foundation, has been a long-time critic of the lone assassin narrative. 

The History Channel produced a multipart series on the 25^th JFK assassination, “The Men Who Killed Kennedy.”  The link includes episodes that aired  2003.    All the episodes can be accessed by clicking the upper right of the screen.

After LBJ became president he was elected in a landslide promising the American people, “We are not about to send American boys nine or 10,000 miles away from their homes to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves.”  LBJ either lied to the public or the pressure from the military-industrial complex was so intense, he caved.  

In either case, the escalation of American intervention in South Vietnam laid the template for the warfare state in America. Endless wars and interventions for the past 60 years by both Democratic and Republican presidents, confirm George Wallace’s observation decades ago, there is not a dime’s difference between the two major parties.     

And LBJ’s Great Society programs cemented the Welfare-Warfare State, which both Democrats and Republicans support. 

In short, America is ruled by one party, which some have called the Uniparty, or the Washington Party, the term I coined in 1971 after President Nixon imposed wage and price controls. 

It is now up to us to abolish lock, stock, and barrel, the destructive WWS. 

Thanksgiving is the testament to private property and free enterprise, the essence of a free society. Unfortunately, this important legacy has been deep sixed by American history textbooks and the political establishment.   It is time we celebrate the real meaning of Thanksgiving. 

A year ago, my memoir was published.  I explain why the Kennedy assassination was the most impactful development in my lifetime.  I believe if JFK had not been assassinated, a more peaceful world would have emerged out of the Cold War.  Instead, the military-industrial-congressional complex and the pro war ideologues rule America.  It is now playing out in Ukraine and the Middle East. 

When will a massive peace movement rise to end the madness that has the potential to start World War III.  As Albert Einstein observed, World War IV will be fought with stick and stones.
