I sent the following letter to Bill McGurn about his column today.
Bill:
Your column about Hillsdale College is spot on. Hillsdale College is thriving despite not receiving "federal aid"-- expropriated tax dollars. ALL "federal government aid" should be abolished ASAP. Voluntary exchange should be the "gold standard" for colleges, universities, and all nonprofits. (See Peter Drucker's WSJ essay, https://ccdl.claremont.edu/digital/collection/dac/id/6737/). In addition, the US economy needs a "hands-off" approach as well.
Here in Naples, the Neighborhood Health Clinic (https://neighborhoodhealthclinic.org) is a huge success without any federal, state, or local tax dollars. The Mises Institute and scores of nonprofits also do not accept "government aid."
Trump should make an Oval Office address to the nation citing Drucker's insights about voluntarism as the best way to provide social services. He should also announce that he and Congress must embrace the Tenth Amendment--“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
I have been making these points for decades and have been interviewed recently on radio and cable shows and podcasts about my recent essay about financial independence and a constitutional federal budget, https://mises.org/power-market/toward-financial-independence-and-constitutional-federal-budget and https://x.com/JosephFordCotto/status/1901623302470463536
Will Trump rise to the occasion and educate the American people about limited government and free markets, or will he continue to micromanage--try to steer--the economy with tariffs and other interventionist policies?
Stay well,
Murray
