President Trump's call to eliminate the Department of Education should be the first step in creating a constitutional federal budget. The president asserts he wants to end "waste, fraud, and abuse" in the federal budget. But the real driver of our bloated budget is unconstitutional spending, which was recognized by President Coolidge who observed: "Unfortunately, the Federal Government has strayed far afield from its legitimate business. It has trespassed upon fields where there should be no trespass. If we could confine our Federal expenditures to the legitimate obligations and functions of the Federal Government a material reduction would be apparent. But far more important than this would be its effect upon the fabric of our constitutional form of government, which tends to be weakened and undermined by this encroachment."

In other words, not only is the Department of Education unconstitutional, but also the Departments of Energy, Commerce, Agriculture, Transportation, Labor, Interior, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, and Homeland Security. Phasing out these unnecessary cabinet departments would be consistent with the Tenth Amendment which states unequivocally, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." President Trump needs to make this case to the American people as we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. We, the people, need to declare our independence from the federal government's overreach.

The solution: MAKE AMERICANS FINANCIALLY INDEPENDENT.
